THE 8TH INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON ACCOUNTING AND FINANCE (ICOAF-2023): PROMOTING A DYNAMIC ENVIRONMENT FOR INTER-SECTORIAL EXCHANGE

On June 30, 2023, the 8th International Conference on Accounting and Finance (ICOAF-2023) officially commenced at Grand Tourane Hotel Da Nang. University of Economics, The University of Danang co-hosted the conference along with the Institute for Global Financial Studies at the University of New South Wales (Australia), Aston University (UK), University of Management and Tunku Abdul Rahman Technology (Malaysia), and other universities including Ho Chi Minh City University of Economics, National Economics University, University of Economics - Hanoi National University, Economics - Law - National University of Ho Chi Minh City, Ho Chi Minh Banking Academy, among other organizations. The conference was honored to have the sponsorship of VINIF - Vingroup Innovation Fund and CPA Australia's representative office in Ho Chi Minh. 


This year's conference attracted around 100 experts and academics from domestic and international institutions, especially with the attendance of two keynote speakers: Professor Bohui Zhang from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (China) and Associate Professor Ambrus Kecskés from York University (Canada). The aim of the conference was to unite researchers, professionals, and graduate students to exchange experiences, share novel ideas and research findings in Accounting, Finance, Economics, and Business. The speakers discussed practical challenges faced in Vietnam as well as globally.

In her opening address, Associate Professor, PhD Vo Thi Thuy Anh, Interim Rector of University of Economics - The University of Danang, stated: "The ICOAF-2023 conference promotes a dynamic environment for interdisciplinary exchange, sharing of knowledge, and collaborative research efforts. It also increases opportunities for cooperative research and publication with international partners, promoting innovation, impactful research outputs, and enhancing the university's reputation in the global academic community."  

In the plenary session, delegates listened to and discussed reports and academic discussions in finance and accounting, including the presentation "Producing AI Innovation: Does It Affect Firm Value and How?" by Associate Professor Ambrus Kecskés (York University, Canada).

The 36 presentations at the Conference were selected research works, delivered in thematic sessions, focusing on diverse contents related to accounting and finance. The discussion sessions were enthusiastic, uniting passionate and scholarly experts and researchers, updating and developing new timely and practical topics and knowledge in finance and accounting in Vietnam and globally.


Within the ICOAF-2023 Conference, VIAN's Summer Conference on Economics, Business and Public Policy was also held on the same day, with around 40 participants from 3 universities and other international experts. The key goal was to empower faculty members with tools and resources to improve their research capabilities and significantly advance knowledge in their fields. It also equipped faculty with advanced research skills, promoted collaboration, and fostered a culture of academic excellence. The Summer Seminar will have a lasting impact on participating faculty and prestigious universities, enhancing lecturers' research capacity and positioning the institutions as outstanding global research organizations.

The success of ICOAF-2023 continues to affirm the reputation and academic prestige of University of Economics, The University of Danang as a destination for major national and international scientific conferences. It establishes a global network of accounting and finance researchers in Vietnam and strengthens research cooperation. It also provides a great opportunity for experts, academics, and lecturers to share ideas, receive feedback, and increase publications in indexed journals. 

With the goal of developing a research-oriented university, University of Economics - The University of Danang and co-organizers aim to make ICOAF 2023 one of the largest specialized accounting and finance conferences in Southeast Asia.
