Scientific seminar: "Commercial arbitration - Practice and challenges"

On October 16, University of Economics – The University of Danang in collaboration with Vietnam International Arbitration Center (VIAC) organized a scientific seminar "Commercial Arbitration - Practice and Challenges". Attending the seminar were VIAC representatives: Mr. Vu Anh Duong - General Secretary of Vietnam International Arbitration Center, Mr. Nguyen Tien Lap - Arbitrator; Representatives of the University of Economics – The University of Danang were Assoc.Prof.Ph.D. Tran Dinh Khoi Nguyen - Vice Rector of the School, leaders of the Faculties and more than 50 students of the Faculty of Law - University of Economics...

Speaking at the seminar, Assoc.Prof.Ph.D. Tran Dinh Khoi Nguyen said that this was a very useful academic activity to improve the legal knowledge for lecturers and students, and at the same time introduce the advantages of resolving trade disputes through arbitration. Through scientific seminars, lecturers and students, the school will have the opportunity to discuss with experts, thereby accumulating more skills and experiences to serve the study and work later.

Secretary VIAC - Mr. Vu Anh Duong presented the topic "Commercial Procedure and Civil Use"

Commercial Disputes and Commercial Arbitration, differences of Commercial Arbitration Procedures and Civil Procedures. Referring to the necessity of commercial arbitration in Vietnam today, experts believe that the settlement of disputes through arbitration will contribute to simplifying procedures and proceedings, shortening the time dispute.

Besides, the quality of dispute resolution will be ensured thanks to the right to select experienced and reputable arbitrators and experts in the profession. Most importantly, the arbitral awards are recognized by the Vietnamese civil judgment enforcement agency. Data provided by experts show that more than 90% of trade disputes in the world are resolved through Arbitration Centers, and that number in Vietnam has increased year by year. In addition, experts also pointed out difficulties and challenges when implementing the form of commercial arbitration in Vietnam.

VIAC is also a prestigious International Arbitration Center in Vietnam, established in 1993. With the aim of promoting the method of resolving disputes by arbitration or other methods, VIAC always guarantees It is necessary to build an objective, impartial and reliable method of settlement while ensuring efficiency and convenience for businesses. Mr. Vu Anh Duong said that in 2016, VIAC has settled 156 disputes, including disputes with foreign elements. Currently, VIAC also strives to expand links with international organizations and forums to exchange experiences on arbitration activities, contributing to the development trend of international arbitration in Vietnam.

The subjects received a lot of students' attention

In addition to the knowledge of arbitration activities, VIAC experts shared skills and knowledge of professional practice with students through specific evidence. Students can also exchange directly, raise questions related to arbitration, arbitration law and learn about the status of resolving trade disputes through arbitration in Vietnam.

Participating in the seminar, students of the Faculty of Law - University of Economics held an Arbitration session to assume specific dispute settlement. This is a practical activity to help students apply the knowledge of arbitration law to practice, improve job knowledge and accumulate more experience for later work.
