Studying abroad orientation with specialist from England

The seminar “Scholarships and Studying abroad in England” in the morning of 27/9 already answered every question about studying abroad for students with a lot of useful and interesting information. Attendance at the seminar included Mr. Adrian Baird – in charge of Marketing and International Students Recruitment of Cardiff Metropolitan University (UK); Dr. Doan Thi Lien Huong – Deputy of Academic Affairs Department and Phan Minh Thu – DUE exchange student at Cardiff Metropolitan University.


At the beginning of the seminar, studying abroad consultant from Cardiff Metropolitan University – Mr. Adrian Baird introduced about the United Kingdom and their developed education system; as well as delivered information about one of the most reputed universities: Cardiff Metropolitan University. Located in Cardiff City – Capital of Wales – Cardiff Metropolitan University has 16.000 students with many international students from 140 nations. The university is also ranked one of the most modern universities in the UK (according to Complete University Guide). One of the greatest advantages of graduating from Cardiff Metropolitan University is opportunities of global careers thanks to a network of more than 5000 companies of the university.

As for the joint program with University of Economics, since 2016, the two universities have sign agreement on students transfer program 2+2 and 3+1, and have officially recruited students for the International Undergraduate Joint Program. This program opens the door for students to have the chance to study in the UK. In addition to preferential policy on tuition fee, students are offered an innovative educating method which involves practical experience and internship. Moreover, International Degree with Foundation year program also helps high school students with studying abroad with the recruitment based on high school transcripts and National Exam English score. At the seminar, Dr. Doan Thi Lien Huong explained the differences between international degree joint program and collaboration programs 2+2 and 3+1; as well as the advantages of each program. Dr. Doan Thi Lien Huong shared that the point view of University of Economics and Cardiff Metropolitan was to support students to determine their path of studying abroad. To get more information about studying in the UK and the benefits of the International Degree program, the students also asked many questions as well as expressed their concerns when deciding to study abroad. The questions focused on English skills requirement, tuition fee, living expenses, scholarships, post-graduate programs, internship opportunities and support from the university for international students… All of those questions were answered clearly by Mr. Adrian and Dr. Doan Thi Lien Huong. The seminar was also an open meeting among students and a former exchange student at Cardiff Metropolitan University – Phan Minh Thu (Class 41K.01.4-CLC). Thu remembered her feeling when she was selected for the exchange scholarship in the UK, the bravery of a freshman to go far away from home to Wales, her challenges, experiences, and unforgettable memories during six months of studying abroad. Thu was strongly impressed by the friendliness of native residents and lecturers and students at Cardiff Metropolitan University. Returning from the exchange program, Thu gave some advice to students: “Young people should get out of their comfort zone. We should be brave to go to a new place so that we can widen our mind, building our living experiences and get ready for new challenges”.

In addition to useful information about studying abroad and scholarship, the presentative from Cardiff Metropolitan University also brought some gifts – the symbols of their more-than-150-year-old university. Through the seminar, DUE students had the chance to know more about the life of international students in the UK and received orientation for their future path of studying abroad.
