Looking back at DUE talk: Watching young people talk about youth

27/04/2018

For the first time, DUE TALK - a competition for making creative video clips organized by the Information Technology and Media Center has left a great impression on the opening of a new playground for students of the University of Economics.

Who said that students of the University of Economics could not make movies?

Launched in the beginning of March - the Youth Month burned with youth spirit, DUE TALK immediately attracted the attention of DUE students when there was an official fan page of the university which allows students to make movies or video clips for the first time. Regardless of the genres, the Organization Committee created an open playground for students to tell stories, anything related to the periods that they have learned and grown up at this university. Whether they were TVC advertisements, short films, documentaries or reports, MV, etc., everything was welcomed at DUE TALK. The Organization Committee only made a small request for all groups that the clips must show the dynamic spirit of DUE students, encouraging inspirational messages in order to introduce the university of generations of teachers and students.

At the beginning of the competition, the Organization Committee only received a few videos. However, the number of videos increased over time with unexpected high-quality products. The participating groups proved one thing that with passion, even DUE students can also make quality films.

After overviewing 13 clips in the first season, the Organization Committee recorded unique ideas. The video clips have spread widely on the social network. It can be the pure emotion of the alumni who came back to visit their university; the story of how young people discovered themselves when they studied at the University of Economics; the cactus which was given a miracle to become a new student to explore DUE; the mystery of the kind amulet falling in a schoolyard; the journey to find youth memories or the story of how DUE converted a game player to a valedictorian and so on.

Hidden behind every video are numerous good messages about youth, ambitions and dreams which are seeded, developed and entrusted to the University of Economics - University of Danang – where young people have the opportunity to experience and explore themselves!

Each product had its own identity. However, the Organization Committee highly appreciated the creativity of the DUEers. Besides the fact that clips were performed in many genres, the way they told stories was diverse and novel. Although their acting was not really excellent, it was very natural, especially many groups have shown the possibility of making films in the long run due to their ideas and skillful techniques.

Top 3 DUE TALK were as follows:

- The First Prize: Finding 71 – The Youth Camera by CAM Media

- The Second prize: Discover Who U Re by group of Le Quoc Phong and Nguyen Thi Thuy Nga

- The Third Prize: Take The Moment And Make It Perfect - AMIGOS team

DUE TALK final results in the first season

These are the groups that impressed the judges with clear messages, good ideas, showing the youthful and dynamic DUE.

With Finding 71, the viewers were completely attracted to the journey of discovering DUE through the funny narration of a camera. The idea of the clip was novel and creative. Finding 71 was potentially viral; however, it needed refinement of images and sounds.

The runner-up “Discover Who U Re” was rated based on its presentable performances from content to images, good techniques, clear messages, bringing about a youthful environment of group activities at the university. Nevertheless, the clip needed some creative features to defeat the winning team.

Meanwhile, AMIGOS's Take The Moment and Make It Perfect was favourably considered at the ideas. However, it contained too many unnecessary parts. If it were refined, it would certainly become an inspirational story for young people in the next national higher education entrance examination.

Other highly-rated clips included Violin Promise - MeoMeo Team; Miracle - CAY team; Kind Team- The story of the conscience amulet, etc. but these teams needed a bit of luck in the race to reach Top 3.

The first season ended successfully. The efforts that students put into the products and the meaningful stories will be the motivation for DUE TALK to possibly return with a new format and bigger scale in the next season.
