17/03/2022

Belonging to the 9x generation, Tran Thi Chau Giang, an assistant lecturer in the Department of Statistics and Informatics, at the University of Economics, won a Ph.D. scholarship at the Faculty of Computer Science, Chung-Ang University, Seoul, Korea.

Interestingly, luck came to Giang in a seminar, meeting and exchanging with professors to learn about computer science. From there, Giang started preparing documents for the scholarship from July 2019, until August 2019, she received an admission letter and officially enrolled on September 2, 2019. “I also admit that after graduating in 2019, I prepared for Ph.D. and received scholarships very quickly, which made me very surprised, happy, and overjoyed,” Giang confided.

The opportunity to receive a Ph.D. scholarship in Korea was a great honor for Giang.

As an alumnus of Management Information Systems (MIS), Faculty of Statistics - Informatics, while still at the university Giang always cherished the desire to become a DUE lecturer, so when she was retained at the university for work, Giang decided to continue studying to acquire specialized knowledge. Giang chose to study a bachelor's program directly to a doctorate to have more time to get acquainted as well as to add some specialized subjects so that it is most convenient for research. Giang added: “Usually, after graduating with a bachelor's degree, students will undergo a master's degree and then study for a doctorate. But many universities around the world allow students to study directly for a doctorate if they meet the requirements of the school”.

This scholarship meant a lot to her, Giang has nurtured her dream of flying further to study and expand her vision of the world. For Giang, this is an exciting and challenging turning point, "my parents are always the ones behind to support me mentally, which is a great motivation".

The opportunity to study at DUE helped Giang gain knowledge and improved her knowledge

Many young people think that the age of 25 to study for a doctorate is too early, but according to Giang: “Depending on each case and your study purposes. Studying for a doctorate sooner or later has its own beauty. If you work as a Ph.D. student right after graduating from university, your learning will be more seamless. At a young age, I have more time to experience. However, in return, I will lack experience and practical knowledge compared to others who have graduated from school and gone to work. If you need to prepare a good profile, your chances of winning a scholarship will be higher, especially for foreign languages," Giang shared.

To achieve this scholarship, the first person Giang wanted to thank is Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Van Huy - Vice-Rector of the University of Economics, the University of Danang, who was the bridge-maker and introduced Giang to meet the professors. In addition, Giang also thanked the lecturers and students of DUE who always supported and encouraged her to try to complete this valuable scholarship application.

In addition to her passion for scientific research, Giang also wishes to travel around the world.

At a young age, Giang is always researching and discovering her research field and has achieved encouraging achievements such as national and international conferences. In 2019, Chau Giang participated in scientific research and achieved some achievements including the First prize at the Faculty level, the First prize at the University of Economics, the Third prize at Danang City level, the Consolation prize at ministerial level, and the First prize at Euréka Science Research Student Award 2019.

Currently, Giang focuses on completing the research project, after that, Giang will return to DUE to do teaching work. With a further goal, Giang will study many other broader and newer issues to contribute to the country's academics.
