26/11/2021

In the context of globalization, the strategic goal of the University of Economics is to become one of the leading management, economic, and business training units in Southeast Asia. The university has always set the goal of being a pioneer in building and updating training programs associated with the most advanced and modern knowledge of business in a global environment. Therefore, learners need to have good foreign language ability right from university to be able to access this source of knowledge. At the same time, upon graduation, students will be equipped with appropriate English skills to immediately integrate into the global working environment.

Renovating the English curriculum is in line with the development strategy and goals of the University of Economics. Through this modern and positive innovation program, the university's students will have access to the world's most up-to-date and advanced scientific knowledge, helping to improve the university's scientific research. At the same time, it will contribute to the transfer of knowledge and technology from foreign partners, creatively solving socio-economic challenges, serving the prosperous development of the community exactly as the school's mission has set out.

This is a necessary job, a right direction and compatible with the university's students, associated with the need to use English as a language tool in the context of practical work. Ms. Truong Thi Phuong Trang, a lecturer of English for Special purposes Department (ESP), said: “Foreign language is a subject that emphasizes skill training. The results of learning a foreign language largely depend on the learners' self-training efforts. The teacher's task is to create an environment for learners to practice as close to reality as possible. With the context of industry 4.0, the rapid change of technology, these training facilities and conditions develops very quickly. Teachers must also know how to take advantage of these achievements. In my opinion, in renewing these English courses, we boldly use the Keynote curriculum with accompanying rich e-Learning resources that will bring many benefits to learners: helping to diversify skills training activities in many diverse and attractive forms, increasing the interest and self-study of learners”.

The improvement of the quality of the training program of English modules is one of the steps to develop and contribute to the development of learners' English ability, helping learners to better respond to the requirements of the working environment. Mr. Pham Anh Tu,  a lecturer of English for Special purposes Department (ESP), said: “Renovating the English course is a very right decision in the current context. The peculiarity of economic sectors is that it is necessary to exchange a lot in the working environment in the future, so focusing on the ability to communicate in English is very practical and necessary. The new program will help students approach English intuitively and effectively thanks to TED Talks videos and the integrated myELT system.”

The English language training program is a part of the undergraduate training program at the University of Economics, with the goal of training a workforce with a sufficient background of in-depth knowledge and especially adaptability and integration into the global working environment. “As the person who directly participates with other departments in the school to write the project of reforming the foreign language training program at the school. We focus a lot on building the program to achieve a balance between the training time allowed, designing the course outlines that are close to reality, and choosing the most suitable curriculum for effectiveness program - helping students achieve the output standard B1 according to the European Framework of Reference for Foreign Language Competency”, Ms. Phuong Trang confided.

Appreciating the success of the English language training program innovation, Ms. Phuong Trang added: “I think the renewal of DUE's English program is a very ambitious but very practical step. Through my initial teaching practice during the past few weeks, I have found that the course, the curriculum, and especially the application of new teaching methods, the way the classes are organized by myself and my colleagues, have created the interest of learners, enhanced active learning activities, self-reliance of students. I hope with the available dedication of the teaching staff, with the University's help in facilitating facilities and learning materials for students, along with the excitement, initiative, and self-study efforts of students, the program will surely be a great success. I would like to affirm that this innovation will surely be a springboard so that right from the first English lessons in a student's life at DUE, students can learn a foreign language in the truest sense.

According to Mr. Anh Tu's comment, the breakthrough point of this program's innovation is that "it will help university’s students a lot compared to the current program. They will not be "learning to take" certifications like IELTS or TOEIC, but will be "learning to do" - very important for the future career development of each student.”

The renovation of English training is of great significance, in line with the change of domestic and international environment on the basis of available resources and advantages to ensure stable development, university sustainability in the future.
