1. CIT Introduction:
Located in the south of Ireland, Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) is recognized and respected as a progressive educational institution of international standing. Established in 1912, it has developed significantly over the years and has been recognized twice as the Sunday Times "Institute of Technology of the Year". All of its programmes meet the requirements of the Irish National Framework of Qualifications and, thus, are fully recognized internationally.
CIT offers a wide range of flexible full-time and part-time courses (at all levels up to and including PhD). CIT has three campuses and they are all located in Cork, Ireland. CIT has a number of vibrant and successful research, innovation, knowledge transfer and enterprise support centres. Among these is the Rubicon business incubation centre, the Genisis enterprise support programme, the NIMBUS research centre and the Education in Employment programme.
2. CIT Faculties, Colleges and Courses:
CIT courses cover Business, Engineering, Science, Computing, Humanities, Media, Art, and Music. Cork Institute of Technology is comprised of two constituent Faculties and three constituent Colleges. The constituent Faculties are Engineering and Science; and Business and Humanities. The constituent Colleges are the CIT Crawford College of Art and Design, the CIT Cork School of Music and the National Maritime College of Ireland.
CIT offers 73 courses through the CAO. Forty-one of these are on the Honours Degree (Level 8) list. It's important to note in addition that there are thirty courses on the Bachelor Degree Level 7 list which have routes of progression to Honours Degree courses at CIT.
3. Number of students and staffs:
CIT currently has in the region of 12,000 registered students with approximately 2,000 new entries year on year. At present, CIT has 1,425 staff members of which 824 are academic staff.
4. CIT Awards and Ranking:
Cork Institute of Technology (CIT) is delighted to be named Sunday Times Institute of Technology of the Year for 2016. This is the third time that CIT has received this award.
CIT has also been ranked in the top 10% of European higher education institutions by U-Multirank, the higher education rankings sponsored by the European Commission. Our students and graduates are multi-award winning, including twice winning the European Student Innovator Prize.
The Department of Tourism & Hospitality put together a 'Green Team' in 2008 and went on to win the Bronze Award that year, followed by the Silver Award in 2009 and the Gold Award in 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013.
5. CIT Work Placement:
CIT has Joint Mentorship Programme, where we offer students many job hunting activities. Also, the CIT Innovation Ecosystem, a concept developed back in 2007 links to the industry and the key to its success is the way it connects research, teaching and learning and collaborations with industry in an integrated manner.
