[RECAP] EXTERNAL SEMINAR – ACADEMIC DIALOGUE ON SUSTAINABLE CONSUMPTION
19/10/2025
Lecturers and students from the Faculty of Marketing – University of Economics, The University of Danang (DUE) participated in an academic seminar entitled “Sustainable Consumption”. The event offered a comprehensive perspective on global sustainable development, aligning with the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Under the guidance of Associate Professor Leah Watkins from the University of Otago (New Zealand), the seminar explored the differing approaches to implementing the SDGs between New Zealand and Vietnam. It highlighted both opportunities and challenges in balancing economic growth with environmental protection.
Professor Watkins emphasised that global population and income growth are intensifying pressure on natural resources, ecosystems, and societies. While consumers increasingly express interest in sustainability, they continue to face barriers such as cost, limited information, and inadequate infrastructure. She also underscored the critical role of businesses as key drivers of sustainable consumption through innovation and consumer behaviour orientation.
The seminar reaffirmed that achieving sustainability requires systemic transformation—spanning economic models, institutional frameworks, and social power dynamics. It served as a valuable opportunity for researchers and marketing professionals to collaborate in creating shared value and advancing a more sustainable and prosperous future.
