EXTERNAL SEMINAR - FACULTY OF INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

01/04/2022

This morning, April 1st, the External Seminar of the Faculty of International Business was held with the topic "Beyond Trade Deficits: Things you may not know about the U.S. – China Trade War” with the participation of speaker - Dr. Priscilla Liang (California State University Channel Islands).

Through the book “Beyond Trade Deficits: Things you may not know about the U.S. – China Trade War" authored by herself, speaker Priscilla Liang presented the factors leading to the trade war between the two major economies in the world and the impacts that influenced the outcome of this trade war.

Accordingly, the factors leading to the trade war between China and the US stem from the economic and technological competition between the two countries, China's rising global influence and the differences between the ideology of two countries.

The trade war has brought both short-term and long-term impacts not only to these two countries but also to the global economy. Specifically, in the short term, the war creates an uncertain business environment; decline in trade flows; Other countries may suddenly become beneficiaries or victims of the trade war, etc. In the long term, the US and China may not continue to cooperate in technology and economics; global supply chains in the future are expected to become shorter and clustered by region, similar to the future of global trade..
