A LAOS FRIEND STUDYING IN FACULTY OF INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

07/10/2021

In the past years, the Faculty of International Business is very honored to welcome students from all over the world to study and exchange at the faculty such as Lao students, Korean students, Finnish students, etc., each of you brings something interesting for the extended IB family. That's why, today IB's family has a special column, which is shared by a final year Lao student of international business, friend Lienmixay Valinh.

In Vietnam for nearly 6 years, Valinh has a lot of good memories with friends, teachers and many other "super cute" things at the Faculty of International Business and the University of Economics, Valinh shared: “When I first arrived in Da Nang, I feel quite confused and worried. At first, I studied Vietnamese at the University of Education, the teachers helped me a lot. After that, I moved to the University of Economics, but the biggest barrier is still the language, even though I have studied for a year because there are many economic terms that I still find it difficult to understand. The only thing I could do at that time was to spend more time studying, reading more, listening more. When you don't understand Lao translation, translate it into English or even use a Vietnamese-Vietnamese Dictionary. If I do my best, tomorrow will definitely be better than yesterday, even today I don't understand all the words but I still try to improve my Vietnamese and new knowledge every day.”

One of Valinh's other memorable memories in Vietnam is celebrating Bunpimai (Laos New Year) away from home. Valinh said: “The Lao New Year takes place from April 14 to 16 every year. Laos is a country that has its own way of welcoming the new year according to its own customs and traditions. People splash water to pray for good luck and peace for the whole year. Lao New Year means bringing coolness, prosperity to all things, happiness and purity of human life. So, I would like to thank the teachers and the school for knowing about this important event of the Lao people and exchanging cultures together during the Bunpimai Festival."

After graduating, Valinh wishes to stay in Vietnam to work and continue studying for a master's degree at the University of Economics - UD.
