CONFERENCE "SUPPORT FOR THE NON-STATE ENTITIES IN PARTICIPATION IN FREE TRADE AGREEMENT BETWEEN VIETNAM AND EU"

In order to support Vietnamese enterprises to prepare for the implementation of the Vietnam-EU Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), which is about to be signed, at 9:00 on April 18, 2015 at Novotel Danang Hotel, Department of Scientific management The Foreign Trade University in collaboration with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung Foundation (KAS) organized a conference with the theme "Supporting non-state entities to utilize the Vietnam-EU free trade agreement".

A number of lecturers and students of the Faculty of Commerce, University of Economics, University of Danang attended the conference. This is an opportunity for students to interact, share and learn issues related to the content, the negotiation process, as well as the impacts of free trade agreements Vietnam signed. with partners in general and EVFTA in particular.

 

The guest speaker of the conference was an expert directly involved in negotiating EVFTA (Ms. Vu Lien Huong, Multilateral Trade Policy Department, Ministry of Industry and Trade), representatives of the business community (Ms. Phung Thi Lan Phuong, WTO Center , VCCI) and experienced researchers (Assoc. Prof. Dao Ngoc Tien, Associate Prof. Do Huong Lan, Foreign Trade University). Participants included enterprises, universities and banks in the city. The conference revolved around the negotiation process, the basic contents of the EVFTA Agreement, forecasting opportunities and challenges for Vietnam, and the views of the business community on the Agreement.

 

With the ambition to negotiate a comprehensive agreement including not only commitments to open markets but also investment, environment, competition, sustainable development, if EVFTA is signed, it will have a enormous impact to each industry and the entire Vietnamese economy. Representatives of enterprises in Danang attending the conference asked experts and participated in debate on issues related to the preparation of enterprises, support from the makers policies, VCCI and researchers for businesses entering the new playground. However, the conference also agreed that, in order to take advantage of EVFTA opportunities, Vietnamese enterprises need to better understand relevant information, have appropriate strategies and proactive preparation.
