AN OVERVIEW OF THE COMMERCE PROGRAMME

The commerce programme was established to fulfill the demands of economic development of Vietnam within the context of global integration. Then, the programme has become one of the main enriched undergraduate programmes in UD-UE. In particular, the growing demand for high quality human resources in Commerce over the two previous decades provides excellent career opportunities for graduates from this programme.

The programme creates a foundation for students to pursue career fields related to commerce. This programme provides students with the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue a variety of careers with national and international companies. Students will be prepared for work with internationally oriented production, trading, import-export companies and investment organizations, or in the public and private sectors in management, strategic planning, research, global operations and public relations.

The Commerce curriculum has been carefully designed in the structure and content to provide students with critical business skills and knowledge in the international perspective and develop an understanding of the social, cultural and political dimensions of commercial business. This curriculum is benchmarked to the curriculum of The University of Economics, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam and The University of Melbourne, Australia. The Commerce programme’s objectives (PO) are that graduates from commerce programme after 3- 5 years since graduation will:

- To be Commerce specialists or Commerce managers contributing to the implementation of commercial business operations in enterprises and organizational strategies (PO1);

- To develop cognitive skills, including communication, information technology skills, and foreign language competence, for lifelong learning and participation in society and workplace (PO2);

- To adhere to professional ethics (PO3).

The Commerce programme’ five strengths they comprise of:

- High proportion of tech-related subjects: The programme is designed to integrate e-commerce knowledge and tools, helping learners adapt to today’s modern commerce types.

- Supportive learning environment: A dynamic and supportive learning environment for training personal skills in line with career requirements in the field of commerce and service.

- Continuous improvement: Programme, subjects, and methods are continuously improved in response to changes in the field of science and business practice.

- Processization and digitization: Teaching, assessment and management activities are robustly processed and digitized.

- Good quality intake: The quality of programme’s admissions is increasingly improved due to its long-built reputation.

In order to be successfully enrolled to the Commerce programme, high school students normally need to obtain a high score in the national university entrance examination every year. This programme is widely recognized as one of the undergraduate programmes setting the high entry score. This reflects very competitive and high demand for joining the programme.


Students who are studying the Commerce programme will have good job and career prospects because they are equipped with knowledge and skills to undertake professional or management positions at all levels in sales and customer service, in production, trading, import-export companies, in firms producing and trading consumer and industrial goods, supermarkets, convenience stores, etc. Therefore, about 92 percent of graduates from the programme have well-paid jobs within 6 months since the graduation, and about 97.4% graduates having jobs after 1 year of graduation (2017-2021).
