National Scientific Conference on Applied Statistics and Informatics on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of education in Statistics – NCASI 2016
“BETTER DATA IS BETTER LIFE” – Borrowing from the 2016 United Nations declaration, Mr. Dinh Van Dao – Director of Quang Nam Statistical Office – co-organizer of the NCASI conference emphasized the role of data and statistical value in the Plenary session of NCASI in the morning of November 12, 2016 at Hall E - University of Economics, The University of Da Nang.
Perhaps that's why NCASI has attracted more than 150 summitted papers from more than 200 scholars from Universities, Research Institutes, State Management Agencies, General Departments and Statistics Offices nationwide. There has never been a conference proceeding with an ISBN index that has gathered such a huge number of articles of such remarkable quality. 109 papers focusing on the following topics: Experience in training statistics and applied informatics; Human Resources Development for Vietnam Statistics; Statistics theory and applications; Applying statistical methods to quantitative research of socio-economic issues; Integration of statistics and information technology; Information system; Warehouse and data mining; Artificial intelligence; Ecommerce.
Assoc.Prof. Dao Huu Hoa, vice rector of the University of Economics, The University of Da nang, in his opening speech, also affirmed that the application of statistical methods based on information technology is an inevitable development in this era of data explosion. 40 years of Statistics major is associated with 40 years of development of our research-oriented University. Education associated with social responsibility, University of Economics – The University of Da nang understands that data has become a resource, which needs to be quantified, objectively and timely supported in the decision-making process of enterprises and organization.
After the introduction of Dr. Le Dan - Dean of the Faculty of Statistics and Informatics, University of Economics – The University of Da nang, NCASI underwent two sessions with 9 presentations. At the plenary session, representatives of the Quang Nam Statistical Office and the Ho Chi Minh City Statistical Office mentioned the access and development of statistical information from many sides around the issue of people, science and technology. For statistical applications, the need to adjust the current inverted pyramid model. MSc. Nguyen Thanh Binh from the Ho Chi Minh City Statistical Office also presented the advantages and disadvantages of big data processing with the help of web scrapper, which is the premise to build a real estate index in Vietnam. The plenary session received the attention of many scholars such as Dr. Doan Gia Dung, Dr. Le Thanh Hieu, Dr. Nguyen Hiep related to the education needs of Master of Statistics, legality of information, how to filter and analyze data...

At session 2, topic “Applied statistics”, focused on theoretical and statistical problems, applied methods to estimate detailed local data, analyze practical of economic and social issues. The presentations taken by PhD. Nguyen Van Cang - University of Economics, The University of Da Nang; Dr. Ha Van Son - University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City; MSc. Nguyen Van Doan - Institute of Statistical Science; Mr. Tran Triet Tam - Da Nang Statistical Office.
At session 3, topic “Applied Informatics”, focused on the effectiveness of algorithms, implications in simulating complex systems and predicting effects, a new approach - multi-agent modeling (a narrow track of distributed artificial intelligence). The presenters were MSc. Tran Thi Thuy Trinh – Duy Tan University; MSc. Dinh Thi Hong Huyen – Quy Nhon University; MSc. Huynh Tuan Anh - Nha Trang University. This session was moderated by Dr. Hoang Thi Thanh Ha, vice- Dean of Faculty of Statistics and Informatics, University of Economics and Dr. Le Thanh Hieu, Vice- Dean of Faculty of Informatics, Hue University of Education, the Hue University

Dr. Vu Thanh Liem - Deputy General Director of the General Statistics Office of Vietnam showed great interest in the pioneering research at the Conference. He said the issues mentioned above are very new in the context not only in Vietnam, because the General Statistics Office is still studying the early stages, but also in the whole world. Some developed countries such as Korea, the Netherlands... have only been applied in recent years.
In his closing remarks, he also expressed his joy by the close association of the units of Statistics with research institutes, universities... by sharing in the use of resources, sharing and transfering knowledge with the aim of developing together. Thereby, on behalf of the leaders of the General Statistics Office of Vietnam, Dr. Vu Thanh Liem further strengthened his determination to further accelerate the application of Information Technology, and improve the quality of statistical resources in his subordinate units.
After the closing of the conference, scientists, managers, postgraduate students, lecturers, etc. from big universities in Vietnam such as National Economics University, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, Industrial University of Ho Chi Minh City, University of Economics and Law – Vietnam national university Ho chi Minh city, Hue University of Science, The University of Da nang ... also had the opportunity to exchange in a cozy and intimate Gala dinner at San Ho Restaurant.
It can be said that the National Conference on Statistics and Applied Informatics NCASI 2016 took place successfully, marking the efforts and achievements of the Faculty of Statistics and Informatics, University of Economics – The University of Da nang during the 40-year journey of education and development. Once again, we would like to thank the Quang Nam Statistical Office, the National Economics University, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City , and the Institute of Statistical Science who have always been with us over the years. Thank you for the attention and participation of all of you representing businesses and organizations in the country.
