Welcoming and Engaging with the Royal Canadian Navy Delegation Aboard HMCS Charlottetown

On May 16, the University of Economics had the honor of welcoming a delegation from the Royal Canadian Navy aboard HMCS Charlottetown for a visit and exchange at the university. The event took place in a dignified, open, and friendly atmosphere, contributing to the university’s external relations and advancing its internationalization strategy.

Attending the program on the Canadian side were His Excellency James Nickel, Ambassador of Canada to Vietnam; Vice Admiral Angus Ian Topshee, Commander of the Royal Canadian Navy; Lieutenant Colonel Paul Payne, Canadian Defence Attaché; Commander Jonathan Maurice of HMCS Charlottetown, along with members of the Royal Canadian Navy delegation and representatives from relevant agencies and organizations. On the University of Economics side, participants included Professor Dr. Le Van Huy, Rector; the Board of Management; heads of affiliated and subordinate units; faculty members, staff, and a large number of students.

Delivering the welcoming address, Associate Professor Dr. Doan Ngoc Phi Anh, Vice Rector of the University of Economics, expressed the honor of hosting the Royal Canadian Navy delegation from HMCS Charlottetown during their visit to Da Nang. The university representative emphasized that the visit not only held diplomatic and cultural significance but also contributed to deepening friendship, understanding, and cooperation between Vietnam and Canada. Canada has long been an important partner for the university through cooperation in training, scientific research, academic exchange, and community development. The visit is expected to open further opportunities for collaboration in student and faculty exchanges, scientific research, and scholarships between the university and Canadian partners in the future.

Associate Professor Dr. Doan Ngoc Phi Anh, Vice Rector of the University of Economics, delivered the welcoming remarks to the delegation.

Representing the Canadian delegation, Vice Admiral Angus Ian Topshee extended his gratitude to the university for their warm and attentive reception. He underscored the crucial role of higher education institutions in promoting international understanding, connecting younger generations, and spreading the spirit of global cooperation. The Vice Admiral also shared insights into the Royal Canadian Navy’s mission in maintaining maritime security, fostering regional cooperation, and ensuring the safety and stability of international sea routes.

Within the framework of the program, leaders from both sides engaged in discussions to strengthen cooperation, exchange, and mutual understanding between Vietnam and Canada, paving the way for further collaboration in education, scientific research, academic exchange, cultural interaction, and the development of high-quality human resources in the coming period.

Of particular note, the exchange session held in Hall E attracted the participation of a large number of faculty members and students, featuring discussions on timely and global topics such as freedom of navigation, maritime security, international trade, global supply chains, regional cooperation in the Indo-Pacific, and the role of youth in the context of international integration.

During the dialogue session, Associate Professor Dr. Doan Ngoc Phi Anh highlighted the vital importance of free international shipping routes for global economic development and the international integration of nations. According to Dr. Doan Ngoc Phi Anh, international sea routes serve as the backbone of global supply chains, promote international trade, and maintain the stability of the world economy. For Vietnam, ensuring a peaceful, stable maritime environment that adheres to international law is crucial for economic growth and sustainable development. He further affirmed that higher education must help students enhance their integration skills, deepen their understanding of global issues, and cultivate international citizenship in today’s era of globalization.
