From its origins as the Faculty of Economics under the University of Da Nang (1975) and later part of the Da Nang University of Technology (1976), the University of Economics has solidified its position as one of Vietnam’s premier institutions for training in economics, management, and business. Over 50 years, it has become a leading center for education, scientific research, and policy consultation, significantly influencing the development of Da Nang City, Central Vietnam, and the nation. From an initial enrollment of about 150 students across 4–5 majors, the university now admits 3,500 students annually across 19 undergraduate programs in economics, business, and law, with 35 specializations. It has expanded knowledge opportunities, enabling students to pursue fields aligned with their passions and abilities. Beyond undergraduate programs, the university offers eight master’s and four doctoral programs, incorporating technology and interdisciplinary approaches such as Financial Technology, E-Commerce, Data Science, Digital Marketing, and Digital Business. Specialized programs, including an Auditing program integrated with the international ACCA certification and programs taught 50% or 100% in English, equip graduates for global integration.
Notably, over 90% of graduates secure employment within six months, with many joining major corporations and international businesses, establishing their careers immediately after graduation. The university boasts 12 programs accredited under AUN-QA standards and six under national standards, ensuring 100% of its programs are accredited, making it one of Vietnam’s top universities for accredited programs. A culture of quality has been established, underpinning its training processes.
From a modest beginning with a few dozen faculty members, the university now employs 493 staff and faculty, including 3 Professors, 24 Associate Professors, and 126 PhDs. With 55% of faculty holding doctoral degrees and over 80% trained at prestigious international universities, they are capable of teaching in English and conducting research to global standards. Generations of faculty have become role models in ethics and academic excellence, inspiring younger colleagues and students. Many have been recognized by the Party and State for their contributions, receiving prestigious titles such as Outstanding Teacher, Labor Medal, and National Emulation Fighter.
A key highlight is the university’s successful implementation of prestigious international projects such as Erasmus+, USAID COMET, VIBE, and Logistics, fostering an academic environment, research opportunities, and a startup ecosystem for students.
Looking ahead, the university faces significant challenges but remains focused on key priorities to meet society’s evolving demands: developing and implementing a strategic plan for 2030 with a vision to 2040, guided by the motto “Unleashing potential, realizing vision, and aspiring for development”; persistently innovating in mindset and action; comprehensively modernizing university governance; and continuously enhancing training and research quality to affirm its position nationally, regionally, and globally.
Fifty years may be a brief chapter in history, but it has been enough to shape a university with a distinct identity, spirit, and mission: to train high-quality human resources with innovative thinking, global integration capabilities, and a commitment to serving the community, contributing to the socio-economic development of the nation, region, and world.
