University of Economics Establishes Institute for FinTech, Innovation, and Sustainable Development Research and Training

May 29, 2026, The University of Economics - University of Danang has officially announced the establishment of the Institute for FinTech, Innovation, and Sustainable Development Research and Training, aimed at promoting research, education, and policy connectivity in the fields of digital finance and sustainable development.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Ho Ky Minh, Member of the Standing Committee of the City Party Committee and Permanent Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Danang, alongside representatives from municipal departments and agencies; Etienne Ranaivoson, Consul General of France in Ho Chi Minh City; leaders of the Danang International Financial Center Executive Agency, Paris Europlace Financial Association, Tether Group, international organizations, businesses, and experts in finance, technology, and sustainability.


At the event, the decision to establish the Institute was presented, and flowers were offered to congratulate its leadership team.

Speaking at the ceremony, Professor Dr. Le Van Huy, Rector of the University of Economics, stated that the founding of the Institute marks a strategic step to meet the city’s development needs and to expand the University’s role in research, education, and policy advisory.

The Institute will focus on three main directions:

Firstly, the Institute will collaborate with the Executive Agency of the Vietnam International Financial Center in Danang to advance research, propose policies, develop human resources, and connect experts in such fields as FinTech, digital finance, digital assets, green finance, ESG, carbon markets, legal services, and international financial services.

Secondly, the Institute will concentrate on developing products for direct application in operations, policy testing, and market development for the Vietnam International Financial Center and Danang Free Trade Zone. These include: FinTech support toolkits and reports; ESG disclosure frameworks and tools for enterprises and financial institutions; Green Taxonomy toolkits and green project classifications; research products and datasets on the carbon market; and risk management reports for FinTech and digital assets.

Thirdly, the Institute aims to strengthen international partnerships, particularly with organizations experienced in developing financial centers, FinTech, and sustainable finance, such as the Chinese University of Hong Kong (ranked 32nd globally) and Paris Europlace (an association encompassing the full spectrum of Paris financial center stakeholders, including corporations, businesses, regulators, and supervisory agencies).

Mr. Ho Ky Minh, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Danang People’s Committee and Chairman of the Danang International Financial Center Executive Agency, commended the establishment of the Institute, emphasizing its significance as the city accelerates the development of its International Financial Center and digital economy sectors, including green finance. He expressed his expectation that the Institute will serve as a vital hub supporting research, high-quality human resource training, and policy advising in emerging areas for the city.

Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu, Director of the University of Danang, highlighted that the Institute’s founding demonstrates the University’s commitment to aligning education and research with local development needs. He noted that this model will enhance research capacity, foster international cooperation, and affirm the University of Danang’s role within the region’s innovation and sustainable development ecosystem.

As part of the program, the University of Economics signed cooperation agreements with the Danang Department of Finance and Paris Europlace, as well as with Tether Group, to expand collaboration in research, training, and the development of the digital finance ecosystem.

The Institute for FinTech, Innovation, and Sustainable Development Research and Training is expected to become a bridge between education and research; between the University and regulatory bodies; between domestic and international experts; and between academic knowledge and the practical needs of the city, businesses, and the market.
