Academic seminar: “Tariffs And Trade Wars: The Seen And The Unseen”

25/11/2025

On November 25, 2025, the online academic seminar titled “Tariffs and Trade Wars: The Seen and the Unseen” provided students and faculty with a multidimensional perspective on the real impacts of tariffs and trade conflicts in the global economy. The seminar was delivered by Associate Professor Dr. Scott Burns from Southeastern Louisiana University, United States.

Associate Professor Dr. Scott Burns analyzed the critical role that international trade plays in many local economies, with Louisiana serving as a prime example. In 2024, Louisiana led the United States with 27.6% of its GDP derived from exports, equivalent to $87 billion, while achieving a trade surplus of $50 billion—the highest among all U.S. states. Dr. Burns emphasized that more than 250,000 jobs in Louisiana are tied to exports, and these positions pay 18% higher than the national average. China is the state’s largest trading partner, with Louisiana’s exports to China reaching $10.2 billion in 2024.

The seminar offered fresh perspectives and fostered lively discussion among students, faculty, and the international expert. It also provided students with direct exposure to real-world global economic issues, thereby enhancing their analytical skills and critical thinking in the context of deep international integration.
