The Journey of Overcoming Adversity to Reach DUE’s Lecture Halls: The Story of Freshman Doan Gia Khanh
10/09/2025
Born and raised in Da Nang, Doan Gia Khanh, a freshman in Human Resource Management, Class 51K17 (Faculty of Business Administration), has embarked on a remarkable journey to university, marked by resilience and unwavering belief.
Living with congenital osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle bone disease), Khánh is unable to walk, relies on a wheelchair, and faces the constant risk of bone fractures. Despite enduring over 30 fractures throughout childhood, he has never been discouraged. Instead, these challenges fueled his determination to pursue education - his greatest passion in life.
“For me, becoming a student at the University of Economics is a source of pride and motivation to strive harder. I want to prove that, no matter the circumstances, persistence opens doors to a brighter future,” Khánh shared.

Choosing Human Resource Management - a field centered on people - Khánh believes it aligns with his interests and career aspirations. Over the next four years, he aims not only to excel academically but also to hone soft skills and gain practical experience through activities and internships, preparing for a professional career, possibly working remotely to suit his circumstances.
Preparing for the university entrance exam was a significant challenge. Limited in mobility, Khánh primarily studied at home, with his family’s support to attend the exam. Thanks to the encouragement of teachers, friends, and his own determination, he achieved a well-deserved result-officially becoming a DUE freshman.
Khánh looks forward to a dynamic and open university environment where he can grow and prepare for the future. He also hopes the university will continue to provide support with facilities and learning conditions to make his mobility and daily activities more convenient.
Speaking of his greatest motivation, Khánh said, “I want to become better every day, not just for myself but also for my family. Despite life’s challenges, I believe persistence will bear fruit.”
To other freshmen, especially those facing difficulties, Khánh offers this advice: “Never give up. No matter the circumstances, as long as we hold onto faith and strive daily, there are always better things waiting ahead. Turn challenges into motivation to grow stronger.”
Khánh’s journey to university was far from easy, but with resilience, faith, and a thirst for knowledge, he has realized his dream.
The Faculty of Business Administration awarded Khánh a 10-million VND scholarship from its Alumni Scholarship Fund, demonstrating support and encouragement for his academic journey and inspiring future generations of students.
