The Vietnam - Korea Cultural Connection Journey at DUE: Bonding, Experiencing, and Growing

22/07/2025

From June 23 to July 18, 2025, the University of Economics - University of Danang (DUE) proudly welcomed a delegation of students from the Institute of Specialized Languages (ICFL) - Busan University of Foreign Studies, South Korea. This was part of a 4-week Vietnamese language and cultural immersion program in the coastal city of Da Nang.

The program was designed as a comprehensive journey of learning and exploration, combining specialized Vietnamese language classes with a variety of rich cultural experiences that reflect.

Learning Vietnamese in the heart of Vietnamese culture

The course “Vietnamese for Tourism and Culture” was more than just a language class; it served as a bridge, enabling ICFL students to explore Vietnamese customs, cuisine, communication styles, and social etiquette. With dynamic teaching methods emphasizing practice and interaction, the Korean students had the chance to use Vietnamese in practical scenarios such as shopping at markets, dining, asking for directions, and more… all supported wholeheartedly by DUE lecturers and students.

A vibrant journey of cultural experiences

A special highlight of the program was the diverse range of cultural, corporate, and tourism activities interwoven throughout, offering unforgettable experiences:

- Crafting “to he” - traditional Vietnamese figurine toys made from colored rice dough.

- Participating in culinary exchanges and learning to cook Vietnamese dishes.

- Visiting traditional craft villages, exploring the ancient town of Hoi An and the My Son Sanctuary - both recognized as UNESCO World Heritage Sites.

- Rowing basket boats in Cam Thanh Coconut Village - a place preserving the waterway culture of Central Vietnam.

- Engaging in real-world experiences at Korean enterprises operating in Vietnam, expanding understanding of cross-national business environments.

In addition, bonding and exchange activities with DUE students served as a powerful connector, helping to bridge linguistic and cultural gaps, and forming lasting memories and friendships across borders.

Voices from the heart

Choi Yun Seo, a student from ICFL, emotionally shared, “I was truly impressed by the friendliness and hospitality of the Vietnamese people and the open learning environment at DUE. Every day here was something new. These experiences helped me understand more about Vietnam and its people - not just through books, but with my heart.”

Farewell, but not the end

Concluding four weeks full of memories, the program not only enhanced the ICFL students’ Vietnamese proficiency and cultural understanding, but also marked a step forward in the academic exchange and international cooperation between DUE and Busan University of Foreign Studies. The values gained from the program will undoubtedly serve as a valuable foundation for nurturing integration and sustainable partnership between the two countries.
