The 9th International Conference on Accounting and Finance (ICOAF-2024) Concludes Successfully

On the morning of July 12, the 9th International Conference on Accounting and Finance (ICOAF-2024) officially opened at the Grand Tourane Hotel in Da Nang. Co-organizing the conference with the University of Economics, University of Danang, were the Global Finance Research Institute at the University of New South Wales (Australia), Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (Malaysia), University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH), and the University of Economics, Vietnam National University (UEB). The conference was honored to be sponsored by VINIF - Vingroup Innovation Foundation. Over its eight previous editions, ICOAF has truly become an international brand for the University of Economics, University of Danang, and its partners.

In his opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Ngoc Phi Anh, Vice-Rector of the University of Economics, University of Danang, stated: “This year, ICOAF continues the proud tradition since its successful inception in 2015. Our journey over the years has been marked by the relentless pursuit of knowledge and development efforts of scholars and scientists in the fields of Accounting and Finance. I hope that the delegates will actively participate, share their deep insights, and forecast future trends and challenges in these fields.”

ICOAF plays a crucial role as a platform for collaboration and the development of innovative ideas among experts and scientists from prestigious domestic and international universities. This is an opportunity for experts and scientists to delve into current and emerging trends in Accounting and Finance both domestically and internationally. The conference is a dynamic forum that transcends geographical boundaries, bringing together a global community of scholars and practitioners to address the evolving landscape of these sectors.

At the plenary session, the delegates listened to and discussed scientific reports from two keynote speakers:
- Professor Cameron Truong from Monash University (Australia) with the topic: “Deciphering Corporate Communication: A Firm-Level Measure of Financial Reporting Risk.”
- Speaker Ian Pay from ICAEW (United Kingdom) with the topic: “The Analytical Future of Accounting.”
During the specialized sessions, there were 70 scientific reports selected and presented, attracting many discussions and sharing of new, timely topics in the fields of Accounting and Finance in Vietnam and globally.

Within the framework of ICOAF-2024, a special session on sustainable finance was held with the collaboration of the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) and the University of Economics and Business VNU (UEB). This was a truly in-depth dialogue forum on the importance of ensuring that sustainable financial activities are accessible and relevant to all stakeholders, fostering comprehensive and impactful dialogue on topics such as: The impact of climate and sustainable governance on corporate policies; Innovations in environmental practices; Corporate policies in response to climate change risks; Exploring ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance), CSR (Corporate Social Responsibility), and sustainable practices; Green bonds, carbon credits, and sustainable financial instruments; Dynamics of the green financial market; Corporate strategies in adapting to changes in environmental policies; Investment in Research and Development (R&D) and its role in promoting green innovation.
Many ideas in accounting and finance were discussed.
ICOAF-2024 is a unique convergence point for leading researchers, experts, practitioners, and policymakers in Accounting and Finance to meet, share, and exchange ideas and explore the latest innovations, trends, prospects, and concerns in various Accounting and Finance fields. This is also a great opportunity for experts, scientists, and lecturers from domestic and international universities to share academic ideas, receive scientific feedback, and increase the chance for papers to be accepted for publication in ISI and SCOPUS-indexed journals. ICOAF-2024 also serves as a foundation to foster a global network of researchers in Accounting - Finance in Vietnam and strengthen cooperation in research in these fields.
Best paper award presented to author group
At the conference's closing ceremony, the organizing committee presented the Best Paper Award to the author groups: Aigbe Akhigbe, Eric Brisker, and Duong with the paper “CEO Inside Debt and the Sell-Off Decision,” and Albane C. Tarnaud and Mohammed Zakriya with the paper “CSR Disclosures and Firm Value: Disentangling the Role of ESG Rating Providers.”
