The 2024 Vietnam Symposium in Climate Transition (VSCT-2024) took place at the University of Economics - University of Danang on the morning of December 12. The conference was co-organized by the Association of Vietnamese Scientists and Experts Global (AVSE Global), the University of Economics - University of Danang, and Massey University.
The 2024 Vietnam Symposium in Climate Transition (VSCT-2024) aims to provide a leading forum for researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to present their research findings and discuss current and challenging issues of climate change risks, the environment, and solutions to mitigate its impacts on macroeconomic and microeconomic policies as well as energy transition policies. The conference is also an ideal opportunity for Vietnamese scholars to exchange research experiences and develop research projects with international colleagues.

In her welcoming remarks, Assoc. Prof. Vo Thi Thuy Anh, Chairwoman of the University Council, University of Economics - University of Danang, emphasized the global threat of climate change, which transcends borders and disciplines, affecting all aspects of our lives. It requires cooperation among governments, corporations, civil society, and academia to mitigate its harmful impacts and move towards a low-carbon, resource-efficient, and sustainable economy. The conference serves as a forum to present advanced research, exchange ideas, and discuss practical solutions for climate transition, environmental sustainability, and energy transition mitigation and adaptation. It is also an opportunity for Vietnamese scholars to connect and collaborate with international colleagues, exchange knowledge, and develop future projects.

The VSCT-2024 conference brought together hundreds of domestic and international experts, scientists, and researchers. The organizing committee received 43 submissions for presentations. This year, the conference was honored to have the presence of two reputable speakers in the field of research intersecting energy, environment, economics, and finance: Prof. Sumit Agarwal (National University of Singapore, Singapore) and Prof. Ian Bateman (University of Exeter, United Kingdom).

Following the keynote presentations, a policy roundtable was held on many fascinating issues. Experts and scholars engaged in lively discussions on topics related to climate change. The contributions at the roundtable were not only academically significant but also closely linked to practical realities, offering new perspectives and fostering multi-dimensional collaboration among stakeholders.
The conference continued in the afternoon with parallel sessions. The parallel sessions on global critical topics at the conference created opportunities for researchers to expand their expertise, share knowledge, and contribute academic values. At the same time, it was an occasion to establish relationships with experts who share similar research interests.
On the morning of December 13, the conference continued with a presentation by keynote speaker Prof. Ian Bateman from the University of Exeter, United Kingdom. In his paper titled “Bringing Climate Change and Environmental Sustainability into Economic Decision Making,” Prof. Bateman emphasized the importance of integrating climate change and environmental sustainability into economic decisions. Through his presentation, he shared the latest research and practical approaches to assessing the environmental impact on economic development. The discussion following the presentation attracted many questions from the participants, particularly concerning specific solutions to environmental and climate challenges.

Within the framework of the 2024 conference (VSCT-2024), the organizing committee honored the best scientific papers. This year, the Best Paper Award was given to scientists from the United Kingdom:
- “Pastures Green: Corporate Investments in Green Skills and Toxic Plant Emissions,” by Duc Duy (Louis) Nguyen from Durham University (United Kingdom).
- “Climate Stress Tests, Bank Lending, and the Transition to The Carbon-Neutral Economy,” by Klaus Schaeck from the University of Bristol (United Kingdom).
