National Scientific Conference "Improving Commercial Arbitration Laws to Meet the Requirements of Integration and Development"

On the morning of September 6, the national scientific conference titled "Improving commercial arbitration laws to meet the requirements of integration and development" took place at the University of Economics - University of Danang. The event was co-organized by the University of Economics - University of Danang, Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, Hue University of Law, and the Central Commercial Arbitration Center.

After nearly nine months of preparation, the conference received close to 70 submissions, with 60 of them being accepted for presentation. Covering a wide range of topics, the conference truly became an academic forum on policies and laws regarding commercial arbitration, enhancing the research capacity of lecturers and researchers, while creating opportunities for networking and collaboration between legal education institutions, arbitrators, and commercial arbitration centers.

In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Doan Ngoc Phi Anh, Vice-Rector of the university, stated: “The national conference 'Improving commercial arbitration laws to meet the requirements of integration and development' aims to provide a platform for legal scholars, experts, and arbitrators to contribute and share their insights through presentations and research papers, thus continually improving the laws on commercial arbitration to meet the current demands of integration and development.”

The conference opened with two presentations by Professor Do Van Dai, Vice Rector of Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, and speaker Kieu Anh Vu, Vice President of the Central Commercial Arbitration Center and Chairman of its Scientific Council.

Following the main presentations, the conference continued with specialized discussion sessions on topics such as: Evaluating current legal regulations on commercial arbitration; Legal provisions on the jurisdiction of commercial arbitration; Legal regulations on arbitral tribunal evaluation in arbitration proceedings; Legal provisions on interim emergency measures; Improving legal regulations on arbitration procedures; Legal provisions on arbitration awards; State management of arbitration; Enhancing dispute resolution methods through commercial arbitration; Solutions for improving the effectiveness of commercial arbitration dispute resolution; Resolving commercial disputes through online commercial arbitration; Mechanisms to enhance the enforcement of arbitration awards; Solutions to improve the capacity of arbitration centers and arbitrators to meet the requirements for resolving investment, business, and commercial disputes in the context of international integration; International experiences in developing and improving commercial arbitration laws, and other related topics.

In the afternoon session, speaker Nguyen Trung Nam, Director of the Vietnam International Arbitration Institute, presented the "Policy impact assessment report; Draft law on amendments and supplements to certain provisions of the law on commercial arbitration." In his report, the speaker analyzed two main issues: (1) Identifying overarching shortcomings, and (2) Assessing policy impacts.

The conference aimed to create an academic forum on legal policies related to commercial arbitration to meet the current demands for integration and development. It also sought to enhance the research capabilities of lecturers, better serving their teaching and scientific research activities. Additionally, the event provided opportunities for networking, collaboration, and experience-sharing among legal scholars, lecturers, arbitrators from commercial arbitration centers, and legal professionals involved in commercial arbitration. Furthermore, the conference provided scientific grounds and arguments for the competent authorities in developing and enacting a new Commercial Arbitration Law, in line with the requirements of economic and social development in the new context.
