WORKSHOP “AI AND LANGUAGE IN FINANCE: UNLOCKING INSIGHTS FROM UNSTRUCTURED DATA”

On July 2, 2025, the University of Economics – The University of Danang, in collaboration with the Vietnam Finance Association International (VFAI), organized a specialized workshop titled “AI and Language in Finance: Unlocking Insights from Unstructured Data.”

Two international speakers, Prof. Hang Nguyen (Michigan State University, USA) and Dr. Mo El-Haj (VinUniversity), delivered in-depth presentations on the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Natural Language Processing (NLP) in analyzing unstructured financial data.

Prof. Hang Nguyen emphasized that leveraging unstructured textual data (such as consumer feedback and product reviews), combined with sentiment analysis tools, topic models, and Large Language Models (LLMs), enables researchers and businesses to transform ordinary text into valuable data to support business, financial, and marketing strategies.

Dr. Mo El-Haj introduced the development journey of the FinNLP field, from traditional systems to advanced AI applications, highlighting capabilities such as summarizing financial reports, extracting causes and events, and designing intelligent multilingual document structures.

Notably, the introduction of the Datacore platform, a comprehensive financial database on Vietnamese enterprises, opened up opportunities for students and lecturers to access real-world data, effectively supporting interdisciplinary research activities and projects that apply theory to practice.

The workshop not only provided updated knowledge on AI technologies in finance but also created an academic–practical networking space connecting international experts with lecturers and students of DUE. The program is part of a series of activities aimed at strengthening research and teaching collaboration, as well as enhancing the University’s capacity to access modern financial data, in line with its goal of training high-quality human resources, particularly in the fields of Fintech and digital transformation.
