Connecting with International Lecturers
In early January 2025, the specialized faculties (Finance and Banking) of the University of Economics held a working session with Dr. Ariel Viale from Palm Beach Atlantic University (USA), a Fulbright Scholar. According to Dr. Ariel Viale, promoting research collaboration in rapidly and dynamically developing economic sectors in Asia in general, and in Vietnam and Da Nang in particular, is both a demand and a prevailing trend, requiring stronger connectivity among universities, expert groups, and academic staff.
Accessing and sharing reliable international academic databases serves as a foundation for researchers and lecturers from universities with shared interests to leverage their strengths in scientific research collaboration, thereby improving the quality of international publications in prestigious journals.
Similarly, at a recent academic seminar organized by the Faculty of Accounting, University of Economics, with the participation of Professor Louis P. Le Guyader from Southeastern Louisiana University (USA), the guest speaker shared the latest research findings and practical experience in accounting. This enabled university lecturers to gain exposure to global academic trends and practical applications.
According to participating lecturers, the practical experiences shared by international academics provided fresh perspectives, helping faculty members update and effectively apply new knowledge in teaching and research. These exchanges also contributed to strengthening educational cooperation between institutions and enhancing the quality of teaching and research at the university.
Assoc. Prof. Dang Tung Lam, Head of the Faculty of Finance, University of Economics, stated that in order to enhance academic capacity and research for lecturers, the faculty is actively advancing plans to invite reputable experts from partner universities to serve as speakers at academic seminars for lecturers, students, and learners in relevant disciplines, as well as to collaborate on research projects with strong practical relevance.
Like the University of Economics, from the beginning of 2025, the University of Education has conducted numerous academic exchange activities, connecting with leading professors from prestigious universities in France and South Korea to engage with lecturers and students in the fields of Mathematics, Computer Science, and Physics. Notably, the academic exchange between the Faculty of Physics and lecturers from Soongsil University (South Korea) addressed emerging topics aligned with the Fourth Industrial Revolution, such as research on multiphase electromagnetic materials, rare-earth ion luminescence, thin-film fabrication technologies, and improvements in integrated quantum emitters for applications in quantum cryptography, measurement, and computing.
According to lecturers from the Faculty of Physics, sharing advanced technological knowledge in these areas has provided new perspectives and research direction ideas aligned with global trends in optimizing quantum network technologies and enhancing application efficiency.
Promoting Cooperation and Research
In addition to inviting international lecturers to conduct academic exchanges at member universities, several lecturers from The University of Danang have also had opportunities to participate in academic exchange programs and serve as visiting lecturers at overseas universities. Currently teaching and conducting research under an exchange program at Mie University (Japan), Assoc. Prof. Vo Thang Nguyen, a lecturer from the Faculty of Chemistry, University of Education, noted that working and researching in a new academic environment has enabled her to learn extensively from Japanese professors and colleagues - not only in terms of academic content and professional activities, but also in research group organization.
Specifically, she highlighted the importance of proactively updating course content to align with emerging trends and effectively organizing and managing research groups. According to Assoc. Prof. Nguyen, establishing regular academic activities contributes to building a well-structured research group with stronger research outcomes - an approach that can be applied upon returning to the University of Education.
In addition to lecturers currently engaged in international research, the University of Education recently had two more lecturers participate in academic exchange and visiting scholar programs at universities in the United States. Dr. Bui Thi Thanh Dieu, Head of the Department of Psychology, Faculty of Educational Psychology, participated as a visiting scholar at Texas State University in the field of social sciences and humanities. Meanwhile, Assoc. Prof. Trinh Dang Mau, Head of the Faculty of Biology and Environment, conducted research at the Marine Biology Laboratory, University of Chicago.
These activities form part of the Partnership for Higher Education Reform (PHER) project between Vietnam and the United States, under which The University of Danang is one of the three leading universities in Vietnam selected to participate.
According to Assoc. Prof. Võ Văn Minh, Rector of the University of Education, in recent years, the number of lecturers participating in visiting teaching programs at international universities has increased annually, particularly in the basic sciences. This represents one of the university’s key advantages in promoting international cooperation and advancing toward the internationalization of higher education.
