DUE and the success of Vietnam International Conference In Finance (VICIF)

On two days 28 and 29/6/2018, University of Economics – The University of Danang in co-operation with Vietnam Finance Association International (VFAI), Foreign Trade University, University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City, and University of Economics and Laws Ho Chi Minh City organized successfully 5th Vietnam International Conference in Finance (VICIF 2018) at Sheraton Hotel Sai Gon (Ho Chi Minh City). This year, University of Economics and Law HCM City was the host. The presentative of the University of Economics – The University of Danang included Assoc. Prof. Vo Thi Thuy Anh – Vice-director, Dr. Dang Tung Lam – Dean of Faculty of Finance, and Dr. Dang Huu Man – Deputy of Department of Research and International Relations.
VICIF is considered the biggest conference on finance in Vietnam and aimed to be one of Asia’s leading academic conferences. Especially, VICIF also gathers some renowned oversea Vietnamese scholars from universities all over the world. This year, VICIF 2018 was honored to welcome the main speaker, Prof. Ronald Masulis, leading expert on Finance from The University Of New South Wales (Australia). The researches of Prof. Masulis have been published in prominent journals about Finance and Accounting, such as Journal of Finance, Journal of Financial Economics, Review of Financial Studies, Journal of Accounting and Economics.

Conference VICIF 2018 was an annual co-operation and scientific research event, with the significant contribution of University of Economics – The University of Danang in event organizing. DUE has been one of the co-organizers of VICIF in the recent three years. The Chairman of Vietnam Finance Association International (VFAI), Prof. Dr. Duong Xuang Truong (University of Iowa State, USA) made a speech to recognize the contribution of DUE and stated that VICIF contributed significantly to the development of scientific research activities in Vietnam.

In her speech, Assoc.Prof. Vo Thi Thuy Anh admitted that VICIS was a special occasion to promote scientific research activities among lecturers and students. This was also a chance to learn from world-leading scholars in fields of finance and to enhance the relationship between DUE and partners. The presentative of DUE promised to support VICIF in the future as a co-organizer continuously.

Particularly, within the Conference, the presentative of University of Economics – The University of Danang and Vietnam Finance Association Internationals solemnly conducted Signing Ceremony to extend the Memorandum of understanding of co-operation, marking a new stage in the relationship between University of Economics – The University of Danang and Vietnam Finance Associate International, with a view to increase academic exchange on finance and reduce the gap between teaching and scientific research about finance nationally and internationally.

Attendance at VICIF 2018 included by scholars in Vietnam and 35 famous scholars worldwide. In addition to 55 research papers presented at the Conference, VICIF 2018 also conducted a panel session about the need to carry out good-quality scientific researches on Vietnam and orientation of conducting research activities in Vietnam. This year, three researches of 3 lecturers of DUE were selected and presented at VICIF, including:
- Hai Ly Ho, "Liquidity, leverage deviation, target change and speed of leverage adjustment."
- Ha Phuoc Vu, "Social capital, credit choices, and growth in Vietnamese micro-enterprises."
- Man Dang, "Does managerial ability matter for the choice of seasoned equity offerings?".
In 2019, the 6th Vietnam International Conference in Finance (VICIF 2019) will come back to Danang and will be host be University of Economics – University of Danang.
