Student Affairs Conference for the Academic Year 2024 – 2025: Joining Hands to Build a High-Quality, Modern, and Civilized Learning Environment

The Student Affairs Conference for the academic year 2024 - 2025 of the University of Economics - University of Danang was held on November 9th, with the participation of Associate Professor Dr. Duong Minh Quan, Deputy Head of the Student Affairs Office of the University of Danang. Attending on behalf of the University of Economics were Dr. Huynh Thi Hong Hanh, Vice Rector, along with leaders of departments, centers, Youth Union Secretaries, and student representatives nominated by various faculties.

The conference featured a video recap of the most notable highlights in student affairs from the past academic year. During the academic year 2023 - 2024, the University of Economics successfully planned and effectively executed directives from the Political Bureau, Government, Ministry of Education & Training, and the University of Danang in areas of political education and student affairs. The university developed programs and issued comprehensive documents to implement directives from higher authorities and the academic year's theme of "Striving for excellence in teaching, learning, research, and service for sustainable development" set forth by the University of Danang.

Review of notable highlights in student affairs for the academic year 2023 - 2024

In terms of political, ideological education, and learning about the values of Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, ethics, and lifestyle, as well as fostering Party membership among students, the university implemented "Student Citizenship Weeks" at the beginning, middle, and end of each term. The institution focused on expanding Party membership among exemplary students, resulting in 39 new Party members in 2024. It also organized classes on Party knowledge for Youth Union members, promoted access to information on President Ho Chi Minh, and encouraged participation in the 2023 "Youth Learning and Following Ho Chi Minh's Ideology, Ethics, and Lifestyle" competition. The Student Branch also held a video-making contest titled "Journey to Unification – Proud Vietnamese Spirit" on National Day, September 2nd, to inspire patriotism and pride in national history.

The university also emphasized promoting campus culture, moral education, life skills, and community activities. Efforts to educate students on ethics and conduct were diversified to enhance awareness and attitudes, influencing student behavior positively. Some standout activities included the "Words of Gratitude – Spreading Happiness" competition organized by the Youth Union, the video design competition "Teachers in My Eyes" celebrating the 30th anniversary of the University of Danang, the Green University Project with 198 trees planted on campus, and successful execution of the "Five Good Student" movement for the academic year, the University rules are posted in lecture halls and receive student support.

In collaboration with local law enforcement, the university carried out extensive communication on legal education, crime prevention, and combating social vices. The university worked closely with authorities from Da Nang City, Ngu Hanh Son District, My An Ward, and other areas where students reside to swiftly address any arising political or ideological issues. Numerous initiatives were implemented to ensure a safe, healthy, and friendly educational environment and to prevent school violence.

The management of students was conducted effectively, fostering student trust. Two-tier student conferences were held to gather practical suggestions and thoroughly address student concerns. The university also effectively ensured student policies, promptly awarding scholarships for academic excellence and mobilizing resources for scholarships benefiting outstanding and underprivileged students.

In managing the assessment of student conduct, the university reported on evaluations for full-time undergraduate students for the academic year 2023 - 2024. With the positive cooperation of faculties, homeroom lecturers, and the Student Affairs Office, the university adhered to regulations in managing and assessing conduct scores.

The academic year also saw impressive achievements in physical education, sports, and school health activities. The University’s student sports delegation participated in all competitions and secured top overall achievements at the 13th University of Danang Student Sports Festival held in April 2024. The Youth Union/Student Association organized the "Healthy Student Day" and the 2023-2024 Student Volleyball Tournament to commemorate the 41st anniversary of Vietnam Teachers' Day.

The university continued to focus on scientific research, entrepreneurship, innovation, career counseling, and job-seeking support for students. The 2024 Student Research Conference concluded successfully with 35 outstanding research projects. The awarded projects were selected for major student scientific competitions, achieving notable accomplishments. In the academic year 2023 - 2024, various activities supporting student entrepreneurship and innovation were organized, including Startup Runway 2024, the DUE Applied Science and Technology Festival 2024, the 2024 Technology Startup Competition (InTE_UD), the talk show "Startups with Shark Hung Anh", and many discussions with new topics, meeting the urgent needs of students.

During the past school year, the university also strengthened cooperation with businesses to effectively implement career counseling and support job search for students. The university organized the 2024 Job Fair, featuring over 75 reputable companies offering nearly 3,000 job positions with diverse qualifications from General Labor to University; maintaining the reception and provision of recruitment information to students and alumni.

At the conference, MSc. Tran Quoc Hung - Head of the Student Affairs Department presented a report on orientation and tasks of student affairs for the 2024-2025 school year. Key focus areas include strengthening political, ideological, legal education, national defense, physical education, and school health; improving the quality of teaching and learning in political theory, economics, and law subjects; enhancing Party development efforts and fostering Party knowledge among students; and actively monitoring student political and ideological activities through dialogue sessions and various communication channels.

In order to recognize the contributions and dedication of the University's students, the Conference awarded 23 class cadres who successfully completed their tasks in the 2023-2024 school year and 13 students who actively contributed to the activities of the University of Economics in the 2023-2024 school year.

The Conference Executive Board also took note of and listened to opinions from the faculty-level conference and answered students' questions about registering for English courses, supporting Laotian international students, dual majors, and issues related to facilities and semester exam schedules. Besides, numerous students provided valuable solutions and ideas to promote the positive image of students and enhance the quality of learning and extracurricular activities.

At the conference, the Executive Board discussed with students issues such as using social networks, supporting scientific research, and orienting learning methods for new students. In particular, the school leaders emphasized that students use social networks intelligently and effectively, contributing to building a civilized lifestyle on social networking platforms. The conference was successful and ended at 11:00 AM, promising a new school year with many improvements and practical support for students.
