According to Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Manh Toan, Rector of the University of Economics, the development of high-quality human resources to meet the needs of key industries and fields such as tourism, commerce, financial services, logistics, and technology information ... is very necessary, contributing to arousing development aspirations, promoting investment attraction, and restoring economic growth. Over the past time, the university has synchronously implemented many solutions focusing on improving the quality of training and scientific research, from renovating university administration towards autonomy; improving the quality of training and scientific research as well as the qualifications and potential of the teaching staff to save money for investment and strengthening of facilities; actively and proactively accrediting training programs according to international standards…

Notably, from the 2018-2019 school year, the school has implemented training courses in the field of tourism under a specific mechanism. This is a step ahead of the trend and is in line with the project "Developing human resources for key economic sectors of the city" according to Plan No. 2809/KH-UBND dated April 29, 2020, of the Danang City People's Committee. In this training model, students are enhanced by 30-50% of practice time and internships at enterprises.

According to Dr. Cao Tri Dung, Chairman of Da Nang Tourism Association, Director of the Center for Student Support and Business Relations, University of Economics, the relationship among the state – the school – businesses, especially in the field of tourism, brings many benefits to the parties. Accordingly, the school grasps business needs to adjust plans, enrollment targets, update training programs, invite experts and entrepreneurs to participate in guiding students to practice.

Businesses can promote their brands and demonstrate social responsibility. “Most of all, students get to experience the industry, practice with businesses, shorten the gap between theory and practice so that when they graduate, they can quickly adapt to the professional working environment. This will ensure the quality of human resources to serve the requirements of tourism development, which is the key economic sector of the city", said Dr. Cao Tri Dung expressed.

Tourism development charter

According to Assoc. Dr. Le Van Huy, Vice President of the University of Economics, University of Danang, in the coming time, the possibility that Covid-19 will continue to affect socio-economic development and slow down the growth rate by the supply chain. Therefore, in order for the tourism economy to return to the "runway" to take off, accounting for 20% of the gross domestic product (GRDP) as set out, the city needs to continue to innovating growth model, unlocking new dynamics, increasing the resilience of the economy by policies of green growth, circular economy, towards sustainable development. In particular, it is necessary to pay more attention to raising the brand name of Da Nang for sustainable positioning, attracting investors, and promoting it to the world.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Truong Son, Dean of the Faculty of Business Administration, University of Economics, said that this is an opportunity for the city to accelerate projects to complete infrastructure and services following the general planning of Da Nang city to 2030, vision to 2045 has just been approved by the Prime Minister. Departments and sectors promote research and development of the night economy, create new tourism products, apply digital technology, and support start-up projects to improve tourism and logistics services to develop towards the direction of development, which is safer, more convenient, smarter... Enterprises also need to calculate a strategy to switch from competitive price to compete on service quality, bringing new values to customers.

“In the short term, the tourism industry also needs to promptly deploy support packages to rescue businesses and workers by extending, rescheduling, and reducing loan interest… In line with policies to stimulate demand, promotions will bring long-term effects, exploit the potential of domestic tourists, promote international tourists to form intentions, restore tourism habits and psychology to Vietnam and Da Nang when the epidemic is under control", Dr. Cao Tri Dung proposed.
