Social networking in reality

In the age of technology 4.0, in order to gain competitive advantage, keeping users’ loyalty as long as possible is one of the challenges facing social networking administrators.  A group of students at the University of Economics – The University of Danang had studied the topic: "The impact of intimacy and belief on users cohesion in social networking - practical research on Facebook" . The study won the second place in the 20th Euréka competition.

 

The students are Le Nguyen Hong Co, Nguyen Phuong Thao, Nguyen Thi Thien, Huynh Hai Dang, Le Luong Gia Huy, all of them are students of Faculty of Marketing, University of Economics (Da Nang University).  Talking about the idea, Huynh Hai Dang said, from the practical perception that technology 4. 0 increasingly developed and fiercely competed, the event that Mark Zuckerberg – Facebook’s Chairman have to explain as disclosing personal information of users, the study team recognized that intimacy, trust and cohesion are important elements in today's social networking environment.  Thus, with the guidance of the lecturer, the team decided to research about the topic: "The impact of intimacy and belief on users cohesion in social networking - practical research on Facebook".

Dang said, the most time-consuming phase were finding the topic which matched their interest and data processing.  These seemed to be the two steps which built up the background and frame of the study. In addition, the team’s topic was one of the first topics to doresearch on the intimacy and cohesion of Facebook in Vietnam. Therefore, it was difficult for the team to find documents to reinforce the research, and most of the documents were found and studied from foreign sources.

According to them, in the age of technology 4.0, users have more choices, as well as it is more difficult to maintain their intimacy and trust in any social networking site. Thus, in order to gain competitive advantage, keeping users’ loyalty as long as possible is one of the challenges facing social networking administrators.  Therefore, after nearly 5 months of research, the team came up with the thesis and also suggested solutions to further enhance the trust and intimacy for social networking, as in the research, topic is about  Facebook: Have to develop users’ information security algorithms that help Facebook with higher information security;  specific disclosure of how to manage and secure information to users;  periodically send each user a list of the information they provide to the site via Facebook;  build a detailed and effective mechanism to solve any information infringement that users provide to Facebook;  change algorithm to make posts from users in the group be more accessible to group members than on regular bulletin boards;  inform users of the current number of Facebook friends each month, suggest new friends ...

Dang shared his thought, when receiving the announcement that the team won the second prize, the first feeling was extremely surprised.  Because there are many teams joing the contest with hundreds of other excellent topics that the team considered the event as an opportunity to meet experts in scientific research, also other teams, in order to share experiences and ideas about scientific research. "As becoming the winner, we are very happy, and this is also the motivation for the team to continue to work harder on future projects," said Dang. 

Euréka - Student Research Award awarded by Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, Ho Chi Minh City in collaboration with National University, Ho Chi Minh City is organized annually for students interested in scientific research at universities, colleges and academies nationwide.  The aim of award is to motivate and encourage students' scientific research capacity, create facilitates and playing - fields for students to study and practice, thus educating young scientists since early days at school as training for future scientists.
