Massey University is a university based in Раlmеrstоn Nоrth, Nеw Zеаlаnd, with significant campuses in Аlbаny and Wellington. Massey University has approximately 35,000 students, 17,000 of whom are extramural or distance-learning students, making it New Zealand's second largest university when not counting international students.
Massey University has grown from a small agricultural college and was established as a university under the Massey University Act 1964. It is also New Zealand’s only truly national university, with a proud 80-year tradition of academic excellence.
Massey University has three campuses in Auckland, Palmerston North and Wellington with approximately 3000 full-time staff to cater for approximately 34,000 students studying internally (over 4000 international students from over 100 countries) and more than 1200 PhD enrolments.
2. Faculties and courses
Massey University comprises the following areas of significant activity for teaching, research and community service: Massey Business School, College of Creative Arts, College of Health, College of Humanities and Social Sciences, College of Sciences. Thus, these five college structure offers the broadest range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs with more than 100 degrees, diplomas and certificates. Key discipline areas include: Agriculture and Horticulture; Conservation Ecology; Engineering, Nutrition and Human Health; Accounting and Finance; Food Science and Nutrition; Information and Mathematical Sciences; Molecular Bioscience; Science and Applied Engineering; Social Sciences; Veterinary and Animal Sciences. In addition, the university has a distance learning programme that delivers university qualifications to over 200 international partnership agreements with 14,000+ students.
3. Awards and ranking
Massey University is ranked in the top 1.2% in the world by QS and top 3% of universities in the world by Times Higher Education (38th in the world for internationalisation).
The Massey Business School is one of New Zealand’s leading and largest business schools having more than 13,000 students. The school is benchmarked by the AACSB as among the top five percent of business colleges globally. Massey Business School's discipline areas rank highly in the 2016 QS ranking, with Accounting and Finance ranked 51-100, Business and Management Studies ranked 151-200, Communication and Media Studies ranked 151-200. In addition, a number of academic staff are highly ranked, such as Professor Harald van Heerde who is ranked No.1 in Australasia and 11th in the world for Marketing. MBS is also highly accredited having achieved AACSB (General), AACSB (Accounting) and AMBA accreditations, and many professional accreditations including, Accountancy (ACCA, CPA, CIMA, CAANZ), Finance (CFA teaching partner), Property/Construction (RICS) and Communications (ACEJMC)
Massey's veterinary school is accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association and is recognised in the United States, Australia, Canada, and Britain. Its agriculture programme is the highest-ranked in New Zealand, and 19th in Quacquarelli Symonds' (QS) world university subject rankings.
