The 2017-2018 student affairs assembly: Create the best learning and living environment for students!

On October 31^st, the student affairs assembly of the 2017-2018 academic year was held at the UE-UD on the issues of enhancing student services; constructing and upgrading facilities, learning rooms, equipment; adjusting time schedule; creating space for activities of student clubs... Attending the assembly were  Mr. Nguyen Duc Tien – Deputy Head of Academic Affairs Department of the University of Danang (UD), and Dr. Duong Minh Quan – President of UD Students’ Association. From UE-UD, the assembly had the attendance of the Board of Rectors, the Heads of Faculties, Departments & Centers, lecturers, and representatives for students of all classes.

At the beginning of the event, Assoc Prof. Dr. Dao Huu Hoa – UE-UD’s Vice Rector asserted  that the assembly is a forum for students to share thoughts, aspirations in learning, training, living and social activities. The Board of Rectors is also looking for students’ ideas to build an advanced and civilized academic environment at UE-UD.

Then, , Mr. Tran Quoc Hung – the Head of Student Affairs Department reported student affairs activities in the academic year of 2016-2017 and the working direction for the 2017-2018. Accordingly, over the past year, UE-UD has especially concentrated on student affairs through many channels such as student affairs assembly, hotline, fanpage, facebook in order to know students’ thoughts, aspirations and promptly meet the needs of students and their parents. In the 2017-2018 academic year, UE-UD set the objectives of  ensuring  the political and ideological education for students, coordinating with external organisations  to hold  extra-curricular activities and soft-skill training for students;  consolidating  and building network of alumni;  selecting and training students  as coordinators  to more efficiently support student activities…

The  Question –Answer session  was held in an open and democratic atmosphere. Some  issues raised by students include  improving student services; adjusting restricted timeframe in the dormitory; upgrading lecture rooms, learning facilities and equipment; building more practical curriculum; grading  and outcome standards; improving wifi system... After receiving the recorded notes, the chairman council explained each issue and offered solutions . In the direct discussion session, student representatives mentioned about tuition fee collection, increasing the number of books in the library as well as organizing more conferences, seminars with enterprises… All problems were answered thoroughly by the council or forwarded to  Faculties, Departments, Centers in charge.

Speaking at the assembly, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Toan – UE-UD’s Rector confirmed that the Board of Rector as well as Faculties, Departments, Centers are always willing to receive any suggestions, aspirations from students. The BoR already commanded to timely solve the urgent issues and suggested solutions for the remaining issues. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Toan hopes that the academic affairs assembly will strengthen the link between the University and students in order to create the best learning and living environment for student

There were also some reports presented at the assembly such as “Increase activities of HoChiMinh Communist Youth Union at class level to create more opportunities for unionist participating in extracurricular activities” of UE-UD’s Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union, “Clubs, teams, groups – Cellule of Youth Union  action movement” of UE-UD Students’ Association, and “Students with keeping academic hygiene” of Personnel and Administrative Affairs Department. These reports attracted students’ attention with their practical issues. The assembly brought many interesting and feasible ideas, contributing to raise students’ awareness and promote activities of Union, Associations  at UE-UD.  The 2017-2018 Student Affairs Assembly was successfully closed at 11:00 AM on  the same date in the high spirit of consensus.
