Cooperation in the Development of University Governance Project at University of Economics

From October 9th to 15th, the delegation of Danang University of Economics – the University of Danang ( DUE), including Assoc. Nguyen Manh Toan - Rector of the University and Assoc. Nguyen Phuc Nguyen, Head of Science and International Cooperation Department, paid a working visit to the University of Herriot Watt (UHW) in the UK, to implement a project funded by the British Council in Vietnam. 

At the meeting with Assoc. William (Bill) Jackson - Leader of Accounting Team - Leader of University Governance Project of UHW, the representatives of DUE  discussed the project plan, including the development of the curriculum framework, financial assurance, human resource development, quality assurance within the framework of the project. Accordingly, in the past, UHW helped to provide resources for DUE  to improve the effectiveness of university administration. Experts from UHW also came to Vietnam to exchange experience in university governance  with DUE’s faculties and lecturers. Both sides expressed their delight at the prospect of sustainable development of the project, from contributing to the strategic orientation of effective and sustainable governance, creating a modern academic environment in DUE.

During the visit to the UK, Assoc. Nguyen Manh Toan and Assoc. Nguyen Phuc Nguyen met the board of University of Social Sciences - UHW to promote the cooperation between two universities in the future. Professor Robert MacIntosh, Rector of the University of Social Sciences (USS), will focus on the development of transfer programs, exchange of students and lecturers, and collaborative research with DUE. On this occasion, the USS has also provided DUE  with a wide range of materials related to international publication, teaching, quality management and university structure. This will be a very valuable resource for DUE to refer, learn and continue to apply in the development of the university administrative project at the university.

 In addition, the representatives of DUE had a talk with Prof. Umit Bititci - Dean of Business Administration - USS of UHW. At the meeting, Prof. Umit Bititci pledged to send scholars to attend international seminars on Accounting and Marketing held by DUE in 2018. The presence of experts from the UHW will contribute to improve the quality and the prestige of the seminars, as well as strengthen the academic exchange between two universities.

DUE has proposed transferring students and lecturers to the UHW within the framework of the Eramus + project in the next semester. Representatives from UHW - Assoc. William (Bill) Jackson and Dr. Yen Tran - Associate Professor in Management, responsible for the co-operation between two universities very much agreed and said that she would work actively to implement the program. Furthermore, DUE has signed the agreement to exchange student 2 + 2 with representatives of Herriot Watt University - Ruth Moir, Vice Rector in charge of international cooperation. Under the agreement, DUE students will study for the first two years in Vietnam, continue their final two years at the UHW and receive a bachelor's degree from the partner university. This is a big step in the exchange of students and lecturers between two universities.

 

The visit of leaders of the UED to the UHW yielded desired results  with many strategic agreements signed, contributing to the sustainable development of the comprehensive cooperation between two universities. In the coming time, both sides will continue to have meetings to discuss the development plan and implement  the university governance  project at DUE.
