Establishment of Professor Takahashi‘s VND1 billion Scholarship Fund for UD-UE students

On 16/2/2017, the University of Economics - University of Da Nang (UD-UE) solemnly held the ceremony to receive the VND1 billion-Scholarship-Fund from the first Honorary Professor of Danang University, Prof. Dr. Yoshiaki Takahashi, a leading specialist in human resources and business management of Chuo University, Japan. Professor Takahashi has been actively and passionately supporting the University in terms of teaching and academic exchanges, as well as contributing thousands of valuable Japanese and English books in economics and business administration.

The ceremony was attended by Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam, Director of Da Nang University; Mr. Junichi Mori, Former Deputy Director for Foreign Affairs of Kyoto University, Japan; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Toan, Rector of University of Economics; Representatives of departments, faculties, centres of the University of Economics; a large number of lecturers, students of the University of Economics; as well as news agencies.

In his opening remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Toan expressed the honor of all staff, lecturers and students of UE-UD to be the recipient of Prof. Dr. Yoshiaki Takahashi’s affection and precious gift. This Fund will help students cover yearly cost of living and tuition fees. The scholarship period is 5 years from the date of the first grant. 

Five students were awarded scholarships at the ceremony to mark the first activity of the Fund. On behalf of these scholarship holders, Huynh Thi Thu Trang, Faculty of Business Administration, expressed deep gratitude to Prof. Takahashi and all staffs and lecturers of UE-UD for offering a gift of both material and spiritual value and to disadvantaged students, providing security and opportunities for them to complete their current program of studies.
Professor Takahashi shared that, with a difficult background, he had to strive to pursue the path of study. In addition, he had received a great deal of help from scholarships to complete his studies, so he wants to share some of his wealth for educational development. He has been to 47 countries around the world during his working career, but he "always consider Danang - Vietnam as [his] second home." 

Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam believed that the Fund would be a source of support and timely encouragement for underprivileged students studying at the UE-UD to fight for good grades, greater personal development, and more motivation to pursue higher education. At the same time, Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam asserted that the of Professor Takahashi’s Scholarship Fund will continue to expand and spread to effectively promote the movement of students overcoming difficulties.
