With 9 years of teaching at the University of Economics - the University of Danang, Dr. Nguyen Truong Minh has always kept his enthusiasm for imparting knowledge and inspiration to students, helping young people to excel in their studies and being passionate about starting a business. After graduating with a Master's degree in Finance in Australia, in 2013, Mr. Nguyen Truong Minh (born in 1987) taught development economics at the University of Economics - the University of Danang. In 2018, he continued to study for a Ph.D. at RMIT University Melbourne (Australia). The specialty of Development Economics is the research of the process of economic growth and development, towards the context of internationalization and globalization. Through the theory and practice of the subject, Dr. Minh wishes to impart knowledge and inspiration to students, help them to excel in their studies, and be passionate about starting a business.

The teacher started his career in the field of sports

According to Dr. Minh, there are many young people working in the wrong profession. Therefore, job orientation for students is essential from the time they sit in the lecture hall. During the lectures, Dr. Minh is flexible in changing teaching and learning methods, promoting the spirit of initiative, and expanding practical contacts so students can better apply knowledge.

In addition, Dr. Minh is also an active Secretary of the Faculty of Economics, actively guiding students in scientific research, and participating in startup-sharing sessions to help young people build a solid foundation for the future. Dr. Minh also struggled to start a career in the field of sports. He is passionate about basketball since childhood, so he spends a lot of time researching documents related to the science of basketball training for children. In 2015, he and his friends shared the same interest in investing in 4 BDC sports centers, linking District Culture - Sports Centers: Hai Chau, Son Tra, Thanh Khe, and Ngu Hanh Son, training basketball for children 3-18 years old. BDC is a complex sports training center for children that includes teaching, competition, and organizing sports events for the community.

At first, it was difficult in terms of human resources and Mr. Minh had no experience, so the revenue was not as expected, even at a loss. “I have a stressful time myself, eating and sleeping at the center to learn about sales and marketing. After a precarious first year, the center is now stable and people know more than the name BDC. In the future, if the number of students increases, I will continue to open more branches”, said Dr. Minh expressed.

Patience and eagerness to learn - the decisive factor for success or failure

Dr. Minh said that he also runs a company specializing in manufacturing and importing sportswear with headquarters in Australia and a subsidiary in Da Nang to provide clothing samples for young people to play sports domestically and abroad. In particular, the important positions of the company are held mainly by alumni, and friends who have studied with Dr. Minh at the University of Economics.

Nguyen Tan Phong, an alumnus of the University of Economics shared: “Thanks to Mr. Minh's help and direction, I realized my strengths and skills in design even though I studied Economics. After graduating from university, I worked at his company for more than 1 year, and during that time I learned a lot of new knowledge. In the company, there are more than 10 people who have accompanied him since he started his business. He is always full of positive energy and inspires everyone…”.

Dr. Minh said that the idea of starting a business, whether small or large, is valuable. For a startup, in addition to knowledge, it is necessary to have other soft skills and not necessarily start doing great things right away, but often need to go from small ideas. “With students with an entrepreneurial mindset, I am willing to share experience, knowledge, and dedicated guidance. In addition, I think it takes the right direction, a little luck, and a good team to be successful. The decisive factor of success or failure is patience and eagerness to learn”, Dr. Minh said.
