The University of Danang discussed cooperation opportunities with the University of Western Australia

On January 14, the University of Danang (UD) held an online meeting to discuss cooperation opportunities with the University of Western Australia (UWA). Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son, Vice President of the UD, chaired the meeting.

On the UD side, there were also leader representatives of the Department of International Cooperation – UD, leader representatives of international cooperation offices and relevant faculties of member universities, affiliated unit including: University of Science and Technology, University of Economics, University of Science and Education, VNUK Institute for Research and Executive Education.

On the UWA side, there was the attendance of Prof. Hui Tong Chua (Acting Head of School, School of Engineering), Prof. Yinong Liu (School of Engineering), Prof. David Huang (School of Engineering), Ms. Chris Hughes (Internationalisation Adviser, Global Engagement Office, Office of the Vice-Chancellor), Ms. Trinh Ngo (Regional Manager, Vietnam and Myanmar).

At the meeting, the participants of the two sides introduced about their units, expressed the cooperation orientations in different fields as well as proposed specific cooperation activities in the future.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son, Vice President of the UD, shared the UD’s highlights in education, scientific research, international cooperation, etc. Besides, Vice President Le Quang Son highly appreciated the quality of training and research of the UWA as well as its reputation in Australia and the world.

In the coming time, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son hoped that the UD and the UWA will consider to sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) which lays a foundation for the two universities to implement cooperation activities. On the basis of this MOU, the UD’s member universities and affiliated units can study to sign Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the UWA in specific fields.

The leader representatives of the UD’s Department of International Cooperation and offices/faculties of member units also proposed a number of concrete activities such as: implementing student exchange under the New Colombo Initiative; conducting virtual student exchange to adapt to the Covid-19 pandemic,…

For his part, Prof. Yinong Liu gave an overview of the UWA, emphasizing that it is a pretigious comprehensive university with a history of more than 100 years. In recent years, the UWA has been regularly ranked among the top 100 best universities in the world, with strong majors such as: agriculture, forestry, environmental science, biology, health science, engineering,… The UWA has a multicultural learning environment and state-of-the-art facilities, making it an ideal destination for international students.

According to the UWA’s participants, thanks to the fact that the UWA and the UD are multidisciplinary universities, the two sides have favorable conditions to cooperate in many fields. Specifically, the UWA and the UD can implement joint training programs, joint research projects, student exchange, capacity building for staff, etc. In particular, Prof. Yinong Liu emphasized the cooperation opportunities between the two sides in PhD training for the UD’s lecturers within the framework of Project 89 of the Ministry of Education and Training.
