Student Scientific Research Conference 2020-2021: A multitude of interesting topics with meaningful practicality

On the afternoon of June 15, 2021, the University of Economics, University of Danang held a conference for Student scientific research at the university level for the 2020-2021 school year online via the Zoom system. Attending the conference were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Quang Son, Vice President of the University of Danang, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Vo Thi Thuy Anh – Vice-Chancellor, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Van Huy - Vice-Chancellor of the university; leaders of faculties, departments, instructors, and more than 150 students.

Speaking at the opening of the conference, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Vo Thi Thuy Anh affirmed: Students’ scientific research conference is an opportunity for students to gain experience, learn scientific thinking methods, solve problems, and write scientific reports as well as present scientific results and ideas. From the knowledge and research results gained, the students will develop and expand further research topics, thereby applying them to reality for future work.

Implemented from September 2020 until now, the University's Student Scientific Research Conference has attracted nearly 70 registered topics, these topics have been defended in front of the Faculty of Science and Technology Research Council and a total of 21 topics. The best talents of the faculties have been nominated to participate in the conference of Student Scientific Research at the school level 2020-2021. Based on the results of the University-level Conference, excellent works will continue to be nominated for the Scientific Research Award of the University of Danang at the end of July 2021 and the Scientific Research Award of the Minister at the end of August 2021 in Nha Trang as well as participating in the Awards of the People's Committee of Da Nang City (July 2021), the Award of the Ho Chi Minh City Youth Union (Eureka 2021), the Olympic Prize in Econometrics 2022 and many other Student Scientific Research awards.

Immediately after the announcement of the decision to establish the Organizing Committee and the Evaluation Committees, 21 authors/groups of authors presented and defended in front of the Evaluation Council in 4 sub-committees.

The organizers highly appreciated 21 participating topics in terms of practicality, theory as well as scientific content. In which, there are 8 topics presented in English by students. This is the result of the companionship of the instructors of the Faculty of Professional Management and the support of the functional departments of the University, but above all, it is still the effort to learn constantly of students of the University of Economics in the process of personal development.

The Student Scientific Research Conference in the academic year 2020-2021 ended at 5:00 p.m. on the same day. The organizers announced the awards:

Four topics won the first prize:

- "The relationship between population age structure, human capital, and Vietnam's economic growth" by a group of students: Nguyen Thi Ngoc Trinh, Hoang Phan Viet Ha, Huynh Thi Diem My, Pham Huyen Trang, Nguyen Van Trung. Instructor: Dr. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha.

- "Understanding factors affecting career resilience in the COVID-19: The case study of hospitality and tourism industry in Vietnam" by student Truong Minh Thi. Instructor: Dr. Su Ngoc Diep.

- “Would nostalgia advertising have a dual impact on both brand equity and pro-social behavior incorporate social marketing? An experiment into customers' intention to bring their own shopping bags (BYOB) in the supermarket” by students Tran Thi Kieu Trinh and Le Minh Toan. Instructor: Dr. Tran Trieu Khai.

- “Do institutional investors improve informational efficiency of stock prices?” by student Dang Thi Hong Ngoc. Instructor: Assoc.Prof.Dr. Dang Tung Lam.

 Four topics won the second prize:

- "Building a higher education exchange" by a group of students: Nguyen Hong Kim Duyen, Nguyen Thi Truc Xinh. Instructor: Dr. Vo Quang Tri and MSc. Nguyen Van Chuc.

- "Factors Affecting Vietnam's Apparel Export Value and Export Efficiency" by a group of students: Dang Thi My Hanh, Ho Thanh Bao, Le Thi Bao Trinh, Huynh Hieu Ngan. Instructor: Dr. Phung Nam Phuong.

- “Acceptance attitude of Danang users towards mobile health services (mHealth): The story of “Cool head” and “Warm heart”.” Of a group of students: Nguyen Thi Thuy Trang, Nguyen Thi Thuy, Le Tran Phuong Truc. Instructor: Dr. Tran Trieu Khai.

- “The temptation of cash. Evidence from high-tech acquirers” by students Dao Thi Ngoc Tram and Huynh Thanh Hien. Instructor: Assoc.Prof.Dr. Dang Huu Man.

- "Relationship between FDI attraction and provincial competitiveness index PCI in Vietnam" by student group: Dao Thi Ngoc Anh, Luu Nhu Phuong, Tran Viet Hoang Phuc, Nguyen Van Tuan. Instructor: MSc. Mr. Nguyen Chuong

- "Impacts of Logistics Performance on Export Margins - An Empirical Study in Vietnam" by a group of students: Luong Nguyen Hoang Anh, Nguyen Dang Quynh Tien, Truong Ngoc Linh. Instructor: MSc. Dinh Tran Thanh My.

- "Students' satisfaction, self-esteem, emotional commitment, and university students' civic behavior: A study in Da Nang" by students Tran Thi Lan Trinh and Ly Tran Ha Ny. Instructor: MSc. Luc Diep Tea.

- "Impact of oil price risk on corporate social responsibility index: Empirical evidence from oil and gas companies in Asia" by students Bui Thao Ly and Nguyen Duc Minh Quang. Instructor: Dr. Nguyen Thanh Dat.

In the coming years, the University has orientations to support student’s scientific research as follows: strengthening connections with businesses, creating the most favorable conditions for students to approach practice for the research process, providing courses on effective scientific research methods for students, focusing on investment in facilities and scientific data such as equipping Fiin Pro database system, online library, practice room, laboratory and Turnitin plagiarism check…
