Conference on “Computable general equilibrium and approaches to analyse effects of free trading agreements on national economic structures”

On the morning of 23rd March, Da Nang University of Economics and Hue University of Economics co-organised the national conference on “Computable General Equilibrium and approaches to analyse the effects of free trading agreements on national economic structures”. International and national researchers from Vietnam Institute of development, Herriot-Watt University (England), Hue University of Economics, Da Nang Universities and Da Nang University of Economics took part in the conference.



Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Khoi Nguyen, Da Nang University of Economics (DUE), Opening Speech

Having delivered the opening speech, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Dinh Khoi Nguyen, Vice Rector of DUE expressed his honor of the university to host the conference in the series of National Science and Technology, period 2016-2020 (KX.01/16-20) on “Research into significant issues on social science and humanity for economic development”. The organizing board hoped that the researchers would further share, discuss and transfer the applications of Computable General Equilibrium and methods to analyse free trade agreements related to national economic structures. Then, a transmission of academic knowledge, cooperation and science research is established.


Professor Paul Hare – Herriot-Watt University – Key Speaker with “Modeling trade in Vietnam”

The conference discussed four main topics:

- Literature review of free trade and the effects of free trade agreements on economy;

- Literature review of Computable General Equilibrium (CGE), Global Trading Analysis Project, and application to analyzing the effects of macroeconomic policy changes;

- Interdisplinary Equilibrium, Interregional Equilibrium, Social accounting matrix, Grativity Model, and applications to analyzing the effects of macroeconomic policy changes;

- Applications of econometric models to look into the effects of free trade  agreements on national economy

In the plenary session, the speakers gave presentations on Modeling trade in Vietnam (Professor Paul Hare, Herriot-Watt University); Application of CGE to analyzing the effects of macroeconomic policy changes (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Toan, DUE,UD); An analysis of in-out inter regions in South East, South West and the rest of Viet Nam (Dr. Bui Trinh, Vietnam Institute of Developing); Estimating and examining Computable General Equilibrium with ME (Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vo Thi Thuy Anh, DUE,UD); Applications of regression to gravity models to analyse the effects of free trade agreements on Vietnam economy (Dr. Hoang Thanh Hien, Duy Tan University). Most of the presentations took the effects into account and looked for measures to analyse the effects of free trade agreements on national economy.
